In March 2026, approximately 3,800 workers at the JBS meatpacking plant in Greeley, Colorado, one of the nation's largest beef processing facilities, went on strike over unfair labor practices and stalled contract negotiations. Represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7, the workers walked off the job on March 16, marking the first major strike at a U.S. beef slaughterhouse since the 1980s.
The union accused JBS of offering wage increases below inflation, charging workers over $1,100 annually for personal protective equipment, and intimidating employees to quit the union. The strike, initially planned for two weeks, has extended into a third week as negotiations remain unresolved, raising concerns about potential impacts on already record-high beef prices. All this earns JBS the title of Buster of the Month.
